WhatsApp has introduced a new Guest Calling feature that allows people to join voice and video calls without creating a WhatsApp account. The update enables users to generate a call link and invite anyone, even if they have never used the platform before. Guests can open the link directly in a web browser, enter their name, and request access to the call, making communication simpler for families, students, clients, and remote teams.
How WhatsApp Guest Calling Works
Simple Browser-Based Access
To start a guest call, a WhatsApp user creates a call link from the app’s Calls tab and shares it with participants. Only account holders can create call links, but recipients don’t need to install WhatsApp or register for an account. After opening the link in a browser, guests enter a virtual waiting room and can join once approved by the host. WhatsApp says the feature supports both one-to-one and group calls with up to 32 participants. The platform keeps calls free, end-to-end encrypted, and without fixed call-duration limits.

Built for Security and Collaboration
The company has also added safeguards to protect privacy. Guests cannot view other participants’ phone numbers, send messages, or invite additional users to the call. Hosts retain full control over who joins and can remove participants whenever necessary. At the same time, guest users can still access useful collaboration tools such as screen sharing, hand-raising, and emoji reactions during meetings or study sessions. These additions position WhatsApp as a stronger alternative for quick online meetings without requiring every participant to download a dedicated app.
Why This Update Matters
The launch of Guest Calling reflects WhatsApp’s broader effort to make communication more accessible across different devices and user groups. Whether you’re a professional hosting a client discussion, a teacher conducting an online lesson, a student collaborating on projects, or simply connecting with family members who do not use WhatsApp, the feature removes a common barrier to participation. According to the official announcement from Meta, WhatsApp also plans to introduce Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook integrations, allowing users to create WhatsApp call links directly from their calendars in the future.
